Staffany

Company: Staffany's headquarter is based in Singapore. They create a software that helps make employee scheduling easier.

Goal: In order to get users to start using our initial product, our product will solve user's problem of scheduling employees easily by giving them needed features based on user testing.

Role: UX/UI Designer

The goal was to get users to start using our initial product, but in order to do that, we interviewed users to solve their pain points and test our MVP product release.

My UX Design Approach

👞 Empathize

We created a competitive analysis to get an idea of what our competitors are doing. Our main target is using the business to business model and anyone who scheduled employees to their shifts. We were able to contact people who worked at restaruants, bars, or hotels to see what their process is to schedule an employee. Based on the collected data, we were able to come to a conclusion that the people used post-it notes and stick it to their computer screen border, as well as Google sheets to schedule their employees.

💭 Define

We collected all our data to find a common pattern that multiple customers had, such as how they schedule employees. We then created "How Might We" questions to help how we could help the customers based on the pattern. How might we help create an efficient and convenient way for companies to schedule their employees? How might we solve problems for employees that call in sick last minute?

📝 Ideate

We then brainstormed all the ideas together to see what possible solutions we could come up with. We started scribbling notes, creating personas, drawing designs, creating post-it notes, etc. We came up with a solution to have "cards" where managers could drag employee name cards to a selected calendar, therefore increasing their time by not needing to find a post-it note and pen, write down the employee name, date and time.

🎨 Design

We started designing wireframes and prototyping them out.

💻 User Testing

After the initial MVP product release, we conducted user testing and gathered feedback from a potential user of our product.

😃 Some background about our tester:
  • works at a hotel
  • scheduled employees using post-it notes and pen
  • manager role
  • age: around 40's - 50's
  • never used any software to schedule employees before

I guided the user testing by giving the user step-by-step instructions on what to do without providing the user an answer. When the testing was finished, I reviewed the recorded videos to make more detailed notes and analyzing every mouse movement/thought process the user was making. I then wrote a deep-analysis written report for the team on the feedback and how to improve.

*Due to privacy reasons, I will not release user testing videos.*

Key Learnings

I was able to efficiently produce designs and user testing by tight deadlines.
